Life on Campus

Student organisations, clubs and societies

Student organisations represent students, host social events, fund clubs and societies and provide services and facilities.

  • Tasmania University Union (TUU) - Hobart, visit the TUU Contact Centre (Union Building) for more information. See list of sports clubs and societies. In Launceston visit the Resource Centre for more information (SA Building on Queen Elizabeth Walk and on the ground floor of the Faculty of Education building).

Transport and parking

  • Metro buses (phone 13 2201) service all three campuses:
    • Hobart - The Metro Busy Bee service (53, 54 and 55) stops at the University. A bus leaves Hobart Franklin Square every 10 minutes. You can buy tickets on campus from the Contact Centre.
      • A new Metro bus service for Hobart, UniBus, will commence operation on Monday, 8 September 2008. The new route 888 provides a short run time journey to UTAS via Regent Street, and combined with routes 54 and 55 services, operates a high frequency timetable (on average, every 8 minutes) Monday to Friday. The route 888 is a dedicated UniBus service and is available during University teaching semester periods only.  It departs/drops off from Franklin Square (Stop O) in the CBD and the Humanities building on the Sandy Bay campus. Standard adult and concession fares apply.

  • Visit the TravelSmart website for other useful information, including carpooling.
  • Parking on campus:
    • yellow dots - free parking
    • blue dots - voucher required between 8.00am and 6.00pm Monday to Friday
    • white dots - staff permit holders
    • green dots - student resident permit holders
    • Students with a disability can apply for a parking permit from Asset Management Services
       
  • Parking off campus:
    • some parking is available on the streets around the University - be aware of time-limited zones.

Lockers

  • Hobart - available in the Union Building. Contact the TUU Contact Centre (phone 6226 2495) .
  • Launceston - available in the SA building.
